McDonald's Sued for Patent Infringement over Internet Software

2017/05/27

McDonald’s has been sued for patent infringement over its use of location-specific internet technology software. The case was filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division on May 23. Internet Media Interactive Corporation claims its patent (US number 6,049,835), “for providing automatic access to preselected locations on the internet”, was directly infringed by McDonald’s. The patent in question relates to location-specific URLs allowing third party social media companies to target location-based adverts at users. Internet Media Interactive Corporation is seeking a judgment in favour of it and monetary damages against McDonald’s that are “adequate to compensate for the infringement that has occurred”.
